Swachhta Pakhwada is a nationwide cleanliness campaign initiated by the Government of India to reinforce the principles of the Swachh Bharat Mission and promote cleanliness as a mass movement. The fortnight-long observance aims to create awareness about sanitation, hygiene, and waste management while encouraging active citizen participation in maintaining clean public spaces and workplaces.
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce the observance of Swachhta Pakhwada at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, during 16-31 December 2025, as part of the Government of India's ongoing commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
This fortnight provides us an opportunity to renew our pledge towards maintaining a clean and sustainable environment within our institute premises and beyond. Cleanliness is not merely a campaign but a way of life that reflects our values and commitment to public health and environmental stewardship.
I urge all staff members, scientists, and students to actively participate in the planned activities and contribute towards making our institute a model of cleanliness. Let us work together to create a healthier and more productive workspace that reflects the excellence we strive for in our research.

As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, a swachhta awareness drive was carried out by the staff of ICAR – IISR, Regional Station, Appangala by cleaning the check dam located in the farm premises. Staff members actively participated in removing weeds, plastic wastes and accumulated debris from the check dam, ensuring free flow and storage of rainwater. The activity aimed to promote cleanliness while enhancing water harvesting and conservation.


A Swachhta awareness class was conducted to staff and farm workers. The session involved steps to follow for clean environment both at office, public places and residential areas. It also gave knowledge about early steps taken forward for Swachh Bharat Mission, and various activities and achievements on Swachh Bharath Mission by Govt of India. The Swachhata class was conducted by Mr Nikhil C M Senior Technician.

As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada activities, the staff of ICAR – IISR Regional Station, Appangala actively participated in a 'Swachhta Clean Drive' organized outside the campus. During the drive, plastic waste and other litter were collected from the roadside and properly segregated into designated bins for safe disposal.


As part of swachhta pakhwada, an awareness class on swachhta was organized outside the campus by the staff of KVK, ICAR – IISR at Thalakkulathoor, Kozhikode district.
As part of Swachhta Pakhwada, a pledge programme was organized at ICAR – IISR, Kozhikode with the active participation of 110 farmers. The programme emphasized the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and responsible waste management in agricultural practices and daily life. Farmers collectively pledged to adopt and promote swachhta measures to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable rural environment.

As part of swachhta pakwada, cleaning drive was carried out in the spice processing facility, ICAR – IISR, Kozhikode. The activity focused on thorough cleaning and sanitation of processing areas, equipment, and storage sections to ensure food safety and hygiene standards. This initiative reinforced the importance of maintaining a clean work environment for quality production and worker health.


A mass tree planting was organized at ICAR – IISR, Kozhikode as part of swachhta pakhwada. All the staff of the institute actively participated in the tree planting drive.

As part of swachhta pakhwada, an awareness class and signature campaign on Swachhta were conducted on 20.12.25 at KVK, ICAR – IISR during the seminar on natural farming at Thalakkulathur. A total of 38 farmers and 2 staff members participated in the programme.

A Swachhta cleaning activity was done in the tree spices section of the ICAR - IISR Experimental farm, Peruvannamuzhi at the nursery premises by removing the fallen green leaves and scraping the moss on the foundation of nursery multiplication sheds.



As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, the staff of ICAR – IISR Regional Station, Appangala conducted a public place cleanliness drive at a bus stop and its surrounding areas. Plastic waste and other litter were collected from the roadside and bus stop premises, properly segregated, and disposed of in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner to promote cleanliness and public awareness.








As part of swachhta pakhwada, cleaning of soil science laboratory was carried out by the staff and students of ICAR – IISR by dusting equipment, organizing workspaces, and properly disposing of waste materials. This initiative not only enhanced the cleanliness of laboratory but also promoted a sense of responsibility towards swachh Bharat, ensuring a safer and more efficient space for scientific experiments.


A Swachhata awareness programme was conducted for the students of the College of Agriculture by the scientists of ICAR–IISR, Regional Station, Appangala, as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities. The programme aimed to sensitize students about the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental sustainability in academic and agricultural settings. During the programme, the scientists interacted with the students and delivered informative talks on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, emphasizing clean surroundings, proper waste management, segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and the responsible use of plastics. The role of cleanliness in promoting a healthy environment and sustainable agricultural practices was also highlighted.

As part of Kisan Diwas, a farmer interaction-cum-input distribution programme was conducted by ICAR – IISR at Maruthonkara and Chathangottunada in Kozhikode district with active participation of local farmers. The programme provided a platform for farmers to interact with experts, discuss field-level challenges, and receive guidance on improved agricultural practices. Essential agricultural inputs were distributed to farmers to support sustainable farming and enhance productivity.


As part of Swachhta Pakhwada 2025, Kisan Diwas celebration was conducted on behalf of the farmers invited to ICAR – IISR Experimental Farm, Peruvannamuzhi. A speech was delivered on best practices for maintaining cleanliness in agricultural practices. The farmer producer organization was also given awareness on Swachhata initiatives for maintaining cleanliness in households, farmlands, and public places. The session was coordinated by Mr. Nikhil C M, Technician, ICAR-IISR.

A Swachhata awareness rally was conducted at ICAR – IISR Regional Station, Appangala with the active participation of B.Sc. Horticulture students from the College of Horticulture, Chamarajanagar, under the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, in collaboration with the staff of ICAR–IISR, Regional Station, Appangala. The rally was organized as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities with the objective of creating awareness on cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental protection.

As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, a comprehensive cleaning drive was conducted in the pathology laboratory of ICAR – IISR to ensure a hygienic and contamination-free working environment. All workbenches, instruments, floors, and waste disposal areas were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected following standard safety protocols. The activity reinforced the importance of cleanliness in maintaining accuracy of experiments and ensuring safety at the workplace.



As part of Swachhta Pakhwada at ICAR – IISR Experimental Farm, a swachhta awareness quiz was conducted to enhance participants’ understanding of cleanliness, hygiene, and waste management practices. The interactive quiz encouraged active participation and helped reinforce the importance of Swachhata in daily life and workplaces.


As part of Swachhta Pakhwada, the office area of KVK, ICAR – IISR was thoroughly cleaned. Staff members actively participated in cleaning offices, laboratories, pathways, and common areas to promote a clean and healthy working environment.


A Swachhata cleaning drive was conducted at the staff quarters of ICAR – IISR Regional Station, Appangala as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, with active participation from the staff members. During the drive, the surroundings of the staff quarters were thoroughly cleaned. Litter, plastic waste, and other garbage were collected, segregated, and disposed of properly in designated bins.



As part of Swachhta Pakhwada, weeding was carried out in the Experimental Farm, ICAR–IISR to maintain a clean and healthy cultivation environment. Removal of unwanted weeds helped reduce pest incidence and improved nutrient availability to the crops. The activity also enhanced field hygiene and ease of farm operations. Farmers were sensitized on the importance of regular weeding as a key practice for sustainable and clean farming.



As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, a Human Chain programme was successfully conducted at ICAR–IISR Regional Station, Appangala with the active participation of B.Sc. Botany students from Davangere University. The programme aimed to create awareness about cleanliness, hygiene, and the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The students participated enthusiastically and formed a human chain, symbolizing unity and collective responsibility towards achieving the goals of Swachhata.

As part of Swachhta Pakhwada at ICAR – IISR Experimental Farm, Peruvannamuzhi, the roof of the old Type I quarters was thoroughly cleaned. Weeds were removed by scraping and accumulated dirt was cleared. The roof surface was then scrubbed to ensure proper hygiene and overall upkeep of the facility.


As part of the Swachhata activities, a signature campaign was conducted in the institute to promote awareness and commitment towards cleanliness and hygiene. Staff members actively participated by affixing their signatures, expressing support for the Swachhata initiative. Visitors to the institute also enthusiastically joined the campaign, reinforcing the message that cleanliness is a shared responsibility of all.


As part of Swachhta Pakhwada at ICAR – IISR Experimental Farm, Peruvannamuzhi, the polyhouse in the black pepper germplasm was dismantled and the damaged polythene sheets were removed and handed over to Harithakarmasena as per the green protocol to curb the use of single-use plastic.



As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, a cleaning drive was successfully conducted at the polyhouse nursery. During the drive, accumulated dust, dry leaves, algae, and other debris were thoroughly removed from the roof surface to facilitate better light penetration and maintain a hygienic environment for nursery operations.



A social media campaign was organized as part of Swachhta Pakhwada at KVK, ICAR – IISR aimed at intensifying awareness and participation in cleanliness drives across communities. Through daily posts, engaging reels, challenges, and hashtags like #SwachhtaPakhwada2025, staff members encouraged citizens to share their shramdaan activities, pledges and cleanliness efforts.


As part of Swachhta Pakhwada, a Swachhata Selfie Booth was installed at ICAR – IISR Regional Station, Appangala to create awareness and encourage participation in cleanliness initiatives.

The valedictory function was conducted as part of the culmination of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 at ICAR–IISR, Regional Station, Appangala, on 31-12-2025. During the programme, a comprehensive report highlighting the day-wise Swachhata activities carried out during the Pakhwada was presented by Dr. Rajanna G. A. The function was presided over by Dr. S. J. Ankegowda, Head of the Station. Dr. Honnappa Asangi, who made welcome speech emphasized the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy institutional environment. All staff members actively attended the function, marking the successful conclusion of the Swachhata Pakhwada 2025.

The Valedictory Function of Swachhta Pakhwada 2025 was organized at the Experimental Farm of ICAR - IISR, marking the successful conclusion of the cleanliness campaign. As part of the programme, a cleaning drive was carried out at the tree spices nursery storage shed, during which accumulated waste, unwanted materials, and debris were systematically removed. The activity aimed to improve hygiene, ensure better storage conditions, and promote a clean and safe working environment within the farm premises.



As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, machine weeding was carried out in the vicinity of the black pepper polyhouse nursery premises. The activity also reinforced the importance of Swachhata by creating awareness about hygiene, environmental protection, and collective responsibility in maintaining clean and sustainable institutional premises.



Vermicomposting activity was organized as part of Swachhata Pakhwada to promote sustainable
waste management practices through eco-friendly methods.
