Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness and Training Programme on Soil Health Management at Choloor

ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research organised an awareness and training programme on soil health management and balanced fertilizer use at Choloor Yuvajana Vayanashala Hall, Chathamangalam, Kozhikode on June 11, 2026, under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan national campaign. The programme was jointly organised in collaboration with the Department of Arecanut and Spices Development (DASD), Government of India, and Kurumulak Samrakshana Samithi under Chathamangalam Krishi Bhavan.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Shiju Lal, Ward Member, Choloor. Shri Syamdas, Agricultural Officer, Chathamangalam Krishi Bhavan, outlined the objectives of the campaign and emphasised the importance of scientific soil health management and balanced fertilizer application for sustaining agricultural productivity.

Dr. Maneesha S R, Scientist, ICAR-IISR, delivered a technical session on soil health management, highlighting the significance of maintaining soil fertility through judicious nutrient management and the integration of biofertilizers in crop production systems. Smt. Thejas Das, Senior Technical Officer, DASD, Kozhikode, briefed participants on the activities, schemes and support services being implemented for spice growers.

An interactive discussion session provided farmers an opportunity to seek clarifications on soil fertility, nutrient management and crop production. Participants were introduced to ICAR-IISR technologies including biocapsules and micronutrient formulations, which were distributed as part of the programme. A total of 32 farmers participated. Smt. Ragitha Kiran, Agricultural Assistant, also attended the programme.

 
The programme successfully promoted balanced soil health management and IISR technologies, fostering collaboration between research institutions, government departments and farming communities for sustainable spice cultivation in the region.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness Programme at Virajpet, Kodagu

ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research, Regional Station, Appangala, organised a Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme at Virajpet, Kodagu District on June 11, 2026, in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the Department of Agriculture.

Scientists Dr. Anke Gowda, Dr. M S Shivakumar and Dr. Gayathri G N interacted with the farmers on the importance of soil health in sustaining crop productivity and agricultural sustainability.

 
The programme reinforced the campaign's goals of promoting science-based soil health management and sustainable agricultural practices among farming communities of the Kodagu region.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness Programme at Narippatta Panchayat Office

As part of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research organised an awareness programme at the Narippatta Panchayat Office, Kozhikode on June 10, 2026. Mrs. Sajna Maniyol, Panchayat President, addressed the gathering, and Mrs. Haseena Mariyam, Assistant Agriculture Officer, welcomed the participants.

Dr. R Praveena delivered a session on 'Soil Health Management for Improving Plant Productivity', highlighting the importance of scientific soil management for sustainable crop production and providing awareness on ICAR-IISR technologies including biocapsules and micronutrient mixtures. Dr. Shameena Beegum P P briefed farmers on scientific cultivation practices for coconut, arecanut, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, banana and vegetables. Dr. Pritam Ganguly participated in the technical discussions and interacted with the farmers.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Abhijit, Assistant Agriculture Officer.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness Programme for Farmers at Koodaranji

Continuing the activities under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research conducted an awareness programme for farmers at Koodaranji, Kozhikode on June 9, 2026. Mrs. Tincy Tom, Agriculture Officer, welcomed the participants.

Dr. Shamsudheen M, Principal Scientist, delivered a lecture on 'Soil Health Management for Improving Plant Productivity', highlighting the importance of scientific soil management practices in major crops of the area. The programme also included discussions on the use of biofertilizers and biocapsules for enhancing soil fertility and sustaining crop productivity. Dr. M Balaji Rajkumar, Dr. Shameena Beegum P P and Dr. Maneesha S R participated in the technical sessions and addressed queries from farmers.

The programme facilitated discussions on major pest and disease issues affecting crops in the region and provided farmers with recommendations on their management. IISR Nutmeg Special, IISR Pepper Special micronutrient mixtures and biocapsules were distributed as part of the programme.

World Environment Day 2026 — Khet Bachao Abhiyan Programme at Chakkittappara

Marking World Environment Day 2026, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research, in collaboration with Chakkittappara Grama Panchayat, organised a Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme at Chakkittappara on June 5, 2026.

The programme featured technical sessions by Dr. Sajesh V K and Dr. Maneesha S R, who highlighted the importance of soil testing, balanced fertilizer use and sustainable soil health management.

The programme was attended by Grama Panchayat President Smt. Moly Thomas, Vice President Shri. Jithesh Muthukad and Agricultural Officer Smt. Rasma Nair. Cinnamon saplings, biocapsules and micronutrient formulations were distributed to participants, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture.

 
The programme brought together panchayat leadership, agricultural officers and farming communities in a shared commitment to environmental conservation and science-based sustainable agriculture on World Environment Day.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness and Training Programmes at Kothode and Koothali

As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research and ICAR-KVK, Kozhikode jointly organised awareness and training programmes at Kothode, Maruthonkara and Koothali on June 3, 2026.

At Kothode, scientists interacted with farmers on soil health management, balanced fertilizer use, biofertilizers, biocapsules and eco-friendly pest management practices in major crops including black pepper, ginger, turmeric, coconut and banana. The technical sessions were led by Dr. Sajesh V K and Dr. Vinu V, and participants were introduced to ICAR-IISR technologies such as biocapsules and micronutrient formulations.

At Koothali, Dr. P S Manoj, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), ICAR-KVK Kozhikode, conducted an awareness session for the farmers of Bhumika SHG, focusing on soil health management, the role of biofertilizers, recommended fertilizer application practices and key interventions for the upcoming Kharif season. Participants were also informed about various support schemes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Government of India.

As part of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, organised an awareness and training programme at the Agriculture Office, Chathamangalam, Kozhikode on June 2, 2026.

The programme focused on promoting sustainable soil health management, balanced fertilizer use, biofertilizers, biocapsules, and eco-friendly pest management practices in spice and vegetable crops. The technical sessions were led by Dr. Sajesh V K, Dr. Anees K and Dr. Pritam Ganguly, who shared practical insights on improving soil fertility, enhancing nutrient-use efficiency, and managing crop pests sustainably.

Shri. Shyam, Agriculture Officer, also addressed the gathering and interacted with the participants.

Khet Bachao Abhiyan — Awareness Programme at Vilangad Village

As part of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, ICAR – Indian Institute of Spices Research organised an awareness programme at Vilangad village on June 1, 2026, in collaboration with a farmers group led by Sri Raju Alex, Member, Vilangad Grama Panchayat.

The programme featured technical interactions by Dr. Mukesh Shankar S, Dr. Madhu Tippannanavar and Dr. Aiswarya K K, who highlighted the importance of soil health management, soil testing, balanced nutrient application, biofertilizers, micronutrients and the adoption of ICAR technologies for sustainable agriculture.

During the programme, NPK capsules, PGPR capsules and micronutrient mixture were distributed to the participating farmers.
