The ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research (ICAR–IISR) concluded its Golden Jubilee celebrations with a solemn and memorable Foundation Day ceremony held at its headquarters in Kozhikode.Dr. B. Ashok, IAS, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Govt. of Kerala and Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded the institute’s pivotal role in advancing Indian spice cultivation through impactful research and innovation. The event was presided over by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR, New Delhi. Welcoming the gathering, Dr. R. Dinesh, Director of ICAR–IISR, presented a comprehensive overview of the major initiatives and achievements undertaken during the Golden Jubilee year.
The event saw the inauguration of the newly constructed Advanced Biocontrol Laboratory, marking a significant step forward in the institute’s efforts toward sustainable pest management. Dr. S. K. Singh also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Golden Jubilee Hall.
The ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished guests, including Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, ADG (Flowers, Vegetables, Spices & Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), ICAR; Prof. P. Raveendran, Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut; former Directors of ICAR–IISR, Dr. V. A. Parthasarathy and Dr. K. Nirmal Babu; Dr. Balachandra Hebbar, Director, ICAR–CPCRI; Dr. G. Byju, Director, ICAR–CTCRI; Dr. Manoj P. Samuel, Executive Director, CWRDM; Dr. Homey Cheriyan, Director, DASD; and Mr. Ramkumar Menon, Chairman, World Spice Organization.
As part of the celebrations, the institute released several important scientific publications and signed licensing agreements for selected research technologies. The prestigious Spice Awards 2025 were also presented during the event, recognizing outstanding contributions in spice research, development, and entrepreneurship.
