Training Programme on “Technological Solutions for Sustainable Spice Production and Processing”

ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices (AICRP on Spices), ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode, Kerala has conducted a training programme on “Technological Solutions for Sustainable Spice Production and Processing” for the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), Meghalaya during 23-27 September 2024 at ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode, Kerala. The training has provided an in-depth exploration of innovative spice farming and processing techniques.The event featured ICAR-IISR expert-led sessions on the economics of spice production, high-yielding varieties for the North East Himalayan (NEH) states, organic cultivation strategies, and bio-intensive plant health management. Practical sessions were also conducted for the team, including sustainable cultivation practices, processing technologies, and value addition and commercialization opportunities.Participants also visited Spices Board and spices extraction industries in Cochin, Kerala and had an in-depth discussion with the Spices Board officials, and acquired insights into large-scale production and marketing aspects with Spice Industries (Plant Lipids Private Limited, Kolenchery, Ernakulam and Akay Group Private Limited, Ambunad, Ernakulam) at Cochin, Kerala.
