International Day of Yoga- 2017

3rd International Yoga Day was observed on 21st June 2017 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (ICAR-IISR), Headquarters Kozhikode, ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research Regional Station, Appangala ,Kodagu, Karnataka, ICAR-IISR Experimental Farm and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peruvannamuzhi along with all the staff members.

At ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research Headquarters, the Yoga day celebrations started with a formal programme including welcome address by Dr.Praveena, R. and address by Dr.K.Nirmal Babu, Director , ICAR-IISR. Followed by a lecture on Yoga by Mrs. Meena, K.Menon from Vyahthi Vikas Kendra. She explained effect of Yoga on health, improvement in the relationship between people, reduction in stress and anxiety etc. In continuation Mrs. Meena, K.Menon and Mr.Liyas P.N from Vyakthi Vikas Kendra demonstrated the yoga techniques which need to be practised to relax mind and body, improve blood circulation and to reduce fatigue after working for a long time on computers or sitting in same posture for long periods. In continuation with delivering the health benefits by practicing Yoga, a practical session was conducted at ICAR-IISR headquarters by Mr. Liyas P.N and Mr. Sajith from Vyakthi Vikas Kendra. Following yoga techniques were practised Bellows Breath, Shining Forehead Breath, Anulom Vilom Pranayam (Alternate Nostril Breath) and Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breath).

At ICAR-IISR Regional Station the session started with the welcome address by Dr. Mohammed Faisal Peeran, Scientist and followed some of the key points that were delivered are Yoga helps in weight loss, a strong and flexible body, glowing beautiful skin, peaceful mind, good health – whatever you may be looking for, yoga has it on offer. The practical session at ICAR-IISR, Regional Station started with little warm up exercises for hands, legs, hips, eyes and neck. Suryanamaskara with the 12 steps was performed by all the staff members, followed by Bhastrika Pranayam (Bellows Breath), Kapalbhati Pranayam (Shining Forehead Breath) Anulom Vilom Pranayam (Alternate Nostril Breath) Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breath) and Laughter yoga (Hasyayoga). Following this certain asanas were also practiced such as Baddha Konasana, Uttana Padasana and Setu Bandhasana.

At ICAR-IISR Experimental Farm and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peruvannamuzhi the celebrations started with a lecture by Shri. Saseendran, Sahaja Yoga, Kozhikode on Yoga and spiritual farming. Dr. P.S. Manoj, Subject matter Specialist and Mr. Balakrishnan gave a talk on Yoga awareness and importance of Indoor gardening. At ICAR-IISR Experimental Farm and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Peruvannamuzhi, practice session was conducted by Shri.Prajeesh, Sahaj Yoga Centre, Kozhikode.
