The IISR Library was established to support the research activities of the Institute and to function
as a national information centre for the storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information on
spices and related areas. The Library supports the research and development activities of the
Institute by acquiring global scientific literature and organizing it for ease of use and improved
access. The infrastructure facilities of the Library have been continuously expanding. In recent
years, the Library has transitioned from a conventional to an electronic library through the
adoption of library automation, offline and online databases, and Internet connectivity. The Library
has been automated using Koha software, and all books have been barcoded for easy retrieval. LAN and
Internet connectivity with independent nodes and a dedicated server have been established. A web
portal of the Library, titled "SpicE-Library," was launched, and an institutional repository was
developed using the open-source software DSpace. ONOS is a programme that provides access to
international scholarly journals and articles to students, faculty, and researchers in India. The
Library also maintains an e-book collection using Calibre, a cross-platform, free, and open-source
e-book management software. The Library aims to acquire scientific literature related to spice crops
and various scientific disciplines of interest to scientists, organize and display these resources,
and make them readily available to users.
